Calling all young business minds! A Summer in The Shark Tank is for the student who spends hours throughout the day brainstorming new products, apps, and forms of technology. For inventors who walk into an existing business and feel that they know exactly how to make it thrive, A Summer in The Shark Tank is an opportunity to spend a week refining their budding entrepreneurial skills, deepening their abilities and critically analyzing their work. Throughout the camp, students will spend a considerable amount of time leveraging the Design Thinking Process and the Lean Startup Model to construct an innovative business plan. Throughout the morning, students will hear from guest speakers and lecturers who are either practicing entrepreneurs or have spent considerable time involved in an entrepreneurial ecosystem. Additionally, students will spend time analyzing case studies and articles, engaging in creative thinking exercises, and expanding their ability to solve problems. Most importantly, through daily peer reviews, students will learn the importance of collaboration and teamwork. A Summer in The Shark Tank offers a first-hand look into the world of entrepreneurship, culminating in a pitch day in which students will be able to present their businesses to a panel of professionals and educators. $25 MATERIALS FEE

Competitive Debate will prepare students to compete in policy debate at the high school level. Students will learn about the 2020-2021 debate topic, receive lectures about arguments and debate strategy, learn to conduct original topic research, give practice speeches and rebuttal redos, and participate in full practice debates. This class will give students a chance to work with coaches who have extensive knowledge about policy debate and will teach students strategies to be successful inside Colorado and nationally. The goal will be to provide students with the topic knowledge, evidence, and skills to be self-sufficient for a year of policy debates with or without a coach. This camp is best suited for students going into their novice year or second year of debate, but students of higher skill levels are welcome.  Materials Fee: $15

Ever dream of writing your own TV show? What about your very own Netflix series? In this creative writing class, students will work together to create their very own science fiction Netflix shows. Writers will write, draw, storyboard, and even cast their shows. They will craft suspenseful episodes that will keep their viewers hooked, and add unique twists and turns, otherworldly aliens and spaceships, and unexpected magic and mayhem.  Students should be prepared to learn about the world of show business and have lots of fun! Along with the ability to “dive deep'' into a project of their choosing, writers can also request future class topics best suited to their interests. Ages 11-15 as required by Red Cross. Babysitting is a great way to earn money, and it’s important to be prepared for all the adventures you may encounter. During this Program, you will receive the 12- hour Red Cross babysitter certification course. In addition to having honed babysitting skills, you will graduate Pediatric CPR, First Aid and AED certified. You will also receive water safety training so you can take your babysitting clients to the pool. Then we will create your babysitting portfolio! Your “babysitter’s bag of tricks" will include numerous activities to entertain kids, you will role play various babysitting scenarios and create a resume, flyer and business cards. Students will explore time travel, technological futures, the paranormal, and the deepest realms of outer space. At some point in a person’s life they will be asked to make a presentation, so why not get a jump start on becoming a more effective public speaker! Public Speaking: Projecting Your Inner Voice will help and excite students to master skills and increase their effectiveness as public speakers. An “effective” presentation includes strong content, organization, delivery, audience, and analysis. During this fun-filled summer course, students will explore facets of their identity and culture to present in a variety of speeches including persuasive pitches and classroom presentations. This will aid all students in getting a jumpstart on the year to come! In addition, the information learned will assist speakers in becoming more critical consumers of information. $15 MATERIALS FEE

Learning to drive is a major milestone in a teen’s life, and choosing the right program is very important. In the DriveSafe course, students qualify for their permits in 4 days and receive everything they need to get their licenses. The 30-hour classroom course is interactive, teaches the basics of driving, and includes the written permit test. Students 14½ and older are eligible to take the course and upon their 15th birthday are eligible to get their permits. During the 12 months that students must hold their permit, they will complete 6 hours of driving lessons from the Greenwood Village DriveSafe Center or any of our 10 area locations. Depending on the program students are enrolled in, they may also take their license test through DriveSafe and participate in a highly valuable 5-hour Defensive Skills Day. Cost: The Basic is $459 (includes classes, permit test, and driving lessons) The Plus is $529 (includes the Basic PLUS the license test) The Safe Driver Program is $729 (includes the PLUS plus Defensive Skills Day)

So many contemporary movies and books share a beating heart with an old fairy tale - Edward Scissorhands with Beauty and the Beast, Pan’s Labyrinth with The Little Match Girl, Coraline with Alice in Wonderland - to name a few. Young Writers will each choose a fairy tale to adapt; from there, the possibilities are endless! Students will write in any genre or form that sparks their interest, learning about literary elements like character, plot, and setting.
