Young artists will dabble and doodle in art styles inspired by famous artists from both the past and present. Keith Haring inspires giant cutouts of action figures. Henri Matisse splatters imaginations with colored cut paper and paper-mache gel that result in a bowl shape. Piet Mondrian motivates artists to paint with primary colors in shapes like squares and rectangles that are created from parallel and perpendicular black strips of paper. Georgia O’Keeffe tantalizes an artist with enlarged flower drawings and oil pastels blended together creatively. Students will look for some new masters to inspire their work, such as Graffiti Art with Banksy and Pop Art with Warhol. Studying a different artist daily will truly challenge the imagination and spark the creative spirit of young artists! $20 MATERIALS FEE

Clay enthusiasts will knead, squish, squeeze and roll as they pull up their sleeves and get dirty with clay. Ceramicists will feel the joy of learning to build pieces by hand, as well as feeling the excitement of wet clay spin through their fingers on an electric potters wheel. Basic skills such as wedging, pinching, rolling and coiling will be developed for the budding sculptor/artist who loves to work with clay. Students will make a usable cup with creative textures and embellishments for their favorite drinks, use a slab roller to construct a sushi tray finished with unique glazes and designs, and construct coils to create a functional bowl with pressed designs and patterns. All pieces will be glazed and fired to offer students the opportunity to take home a completed masterpiece that they can use in their everyday life. $35 MATERIALS FEE

Using the elements of the earth and by applying the “feng shui way”, students will design beautiful living spaces from castles to cottages to fairy/wood goblin homes. Incorporating handbuilt clay pieces and natural materials, ceramicists will create a beautifully balanced work of art, using skills in design, clay, and architecture. Too much of any one shape or color will throw off your feng shui, so balance “fire” with a triangle shape supported with reds and oranges, or “metal” inspired by circles, and whites or “water” represented through wavy shapes and movements, combined with dark colors. These are just a few of the shape/color pairings that artists will discover as they design their container garden with clay sculpture as their base and add embellishments and creative imagination! Using different artistic skills inspired by the elements and structure of feng shui design, students will build a finished sculptural piece to cherish forever! $35 MATERIALS FEE

Inspired by elements used in feng shui design and living, students will build a hide-away for magical creatures and spirits of all sizes and shapes. Young ceramicists will first create the inhabitants who occupy a living space and garden. Campers will explore the basic elements of building, design, sculpting and more while incorporating handbuilt clay pieces and natural materials to develop a beautifully balanced work of art. Too much of any one shape or color will throw off your feng shui, so balance “fire” with a triangle shape supported with reds and oranges, or “metal” inspired by circles, and whites or “water” represented through wavy shapes and movements, combined with dark colors. These are just a few of the shape/color pairings that students will discover as they design with their base of clay/ sculpture and add embellishments and creative imagination! Young artists will complete the week with a finished container garden sculpture to take home and enjoy. $35 MATERIALS FEE

Ceramicists will feel the excitement of opening and pulling up a mound of clay and shaping it into a bowl, a cylinder, and much more! Students will learn to judge the depth and thickness of a clay pot as they experience the beginnings of creating a 3-dimensional piece of pottery. Wedging, centering, pulling, lifting and trimming will be demonstrated and experienced in hands-on activities. Ceramicists will have the opportunity to refine their throwing skills and pursue and develop hand-building techniques. Prior experience with clay is not necessary; only a desire to be challenged to be creative and grow as a ceramic artist is all that is required. Even if potters have participated in this class before, they will continue to be challenged, as the work will be geared towards the skills and needs of the individual artist. New skills and projects will be presented in the summer of 2020! $35 MATERIALS FEE
