There's one thing the movers and shakers of the app design industry have in common: each of them saw a need in their community, and then designed an app that filled that need. In this course, students will consider the ethical and social impact of apps as part of fulfilling their overall goal of developing an app that could be sold on the Google Play store. Students will interview members of their community to gain insight into needs that might be met through app development. Students will learn the basics of coding in the text and blocks based JavaScript coding platform App Lab in order to make these app designs a reality, and conclude with an examination of common marketing techniques and strategies for selling an app.  No prior code experience required. This is a great opportunity for budding entrepreneurs who would like to dive into the world of coding. If you took Apps for Change last year, come back to deepen your skills in app development and the entrepreneurial side app marketing! More app practice and clients await your coding expertise! Materials Fee: $15

Students who enjoy watching Survivorman, Dual Survival, Ultimate Survival Alaska, or Man vs. Wild and love spending time outdoors hiking, camping, backpacking, or even skiing...this is the class for you! SURVIVE 1 is also for the student who has always wondered what to do if stranded on the roadside during a storm, lost in the woods, or injured while skiing the back bowls. This class is for students who have always wanted to be prepared in any survival situation. Survivalists will learn to make survival fires and shelters, use a survival knife safely, purify water, signal for help, and meet their basic survival needs. This entirely hands-on program will be conducted mostly in the outdoors on Kent Denver's campus. Students will join Chris Michaud, a Kent Denver teacher and an experienced survival and emergency preparedness instructor, on this week-long summer adventure. Students will walk away with a new set of skills that will enable them to not only survive but to help them become more self-reliant and confident. Materials Fee: $40

Students will explore our wild and wonderful planet through art, design and engineering. From prehistoric creatures to fossil stories, students delight while investigating earth and life science through creative experiences. Campers will become “artist explorers” while traveling through time - inspecting Earth’s unique story and its four special systems. Students will have a blast trekking through deep history to investigate the marvelous and mysterious creatures that roamed our ancient world. Students will have a ball celebrating our planet with a host of super fun take-home projects – design a hi-tech hanging garden, make cool Jurassic puppets, fashion an LED lava lamp and cast a fossil paperweight! Campers will also unite to craft a 50-foot Earth history timeline and embark on a special journey - producing a group Stop-Motion-Animation video celebrating our planet’s 4.6 billion year history! Family & friends are invited to share in the video premiere party at the end of camp. Click the link below to learn more about Eurekus. Materials Fee: $40

SURVIVE 2 is for the adventurer who wants to take their survival skills to the next level! Whether students have completed SURVIVE 1 or are just starting to learn survival skills, this week-long summer training program will enable them to become more confident in their own abilities to survive and thrive in the outdoors, especially when things go wrong or an emergency occurs. Students will hone their ability to make survival fires, learn how to purify water at least three different ways, how to signal for help, and how to meet their basic survival needs in the wilderness or backcountry. This program will also focus on wilderness and survival navigation, river crossing, and how to put together a personal survival kit. Instructed by Chris Michaud, a Kent Denver teacher and an experienced survival and emergency preparedness instructor, this summer course will enable students to improve bushcraft and survival knowledge and skills, as well as take home their own survival kit to carry on future adventures. Materials Fee: $40
