This course will excite the student who has always dreamed of flying or at least designing something that could fly. Students should get their engineering brains spinning as they dabble and doodle in Kent Denver’s state of the art impact studio/maker space. In this two week camp of aerodynamic-technology fun, students will learn to fly with our fantastic *NEW* offering of model airplane fabrications. Students will be challenged to learn the basics needed for flight and how to make their own RC airplanes from scratch. Of course, RC stands for none other than remote control! Young aeronautical engineers will be inspired in the impact studio as they are exposed to 3D printers, laser cutters and all sorts of amazing tools! Come learn the “ins and outs” of aerospace engineering and piloting as students design, build and fly their very own models.

Student robotics enthusiasts are invited to join Kent Denver Robotics coaches for a crash course on everything VEX! VEX Robotics is an organization that aims to encourage and supplement STEM-related education in schools all over the world. VEX is known for the VEX Robotics Competition (VEX EDR), a yearly competition that challenges middle and high school students to design and build a robot for a specific task. In Vex Robotics Lab at Kent Denver, students will work together in teams to build a robot from the ground up, competing against each other in remote-controlled challenges, and they will learn to code autonomous functions with VEXCode C++. No prior experience with robotics or coding is necessary, so students should come and explore the wonderful world of VEX through the development of their own robot this summer! $60 MATERIALS FEE

Kids learn to code by creating their own video games. Each camper works with a school laptop and with Scratch, an MIT-developed computer programming language for young people. Participants begin by creating classic games like Pong, Pac-Man, and Brick Breaker. Then they invent new games of their own. Three MindDance teachers provide inspiration and support as kids create and share their work. Participants experience a warm and social learning community that is hands-on, challenging, and fun. The Scratch programming language is free and web-based, allowing campers to work on their projects from home, long after camp is over, and to publish their work to the Scratch website. MindDance is in its 7th year of offering summer camps at Stanley. The camp is great for beginning and experienced coders, and many sign up for multiple MindDance camps. The 3-minute Scratch video at MindDance.com/v1 and the 3-minute Code.org video at MindDance.com/v2 show the joy and value of learning to code. Material Fee -$0

There's one thing the movers and shakers of the app design industry have in common: each of them saw a need in their community, and then designed an app that filled that need. In this course, students will consider the ethical and social impact of apps as part of fulfilling their overall goal of developing an app that could be sold on the Google Play store. Students will interview members of their community to gain insight into needs that might be met through app development. Students will learn the basics of coding in the text and blocks based JavaScript coding platform App Lab in order to make these app designs a reality, and conclude with an examination of common marketing techniques and strategies for selling an app.  No prior code experience required. This is a great opportunity for budding entrepreneurs who would like to dive into the world of coding. If you took Apps for Change last year, come back to deepen your skills in app development and the entrepreneurial side app marketing! More app practice and clients await your coding expertise!
