Oh! The places you’ll go at The Art Garage this week! You’ll read some of Dr. Seuss’ well known stories and make colorful artworks inspired by them. You’ll create vibrant worlds and silly creatures, climb tufted trees, see creatures with blue hair and meet star bellied sneetches! Young artists will have bushels of fun with painting and drawing materials and explore textures and patterning as they create wonderful worlds like Dr. Seuss!

Batik is primarily known as an Indonesian art form however, the resist technique has existsed across the world in various places such as China, India and Africa. Students will not only learn the history of the wax resist dyeing technique called Batik but they will also learn the process first hand! The wax acts as a resist to dye when applied to cloth and we will practice patterns and motifs on our own fabirc with this magical, ancient art form.

They may just look like wires, gears and cold metal but they warm our hearts with their quirky personalities, loyalty and friendship! This week, we’ll have a week long robot adventure and look to some of our favorite droids like BB8, RJD2, and WALL-E for inspiration! Students will learn the nuts and bolts of junk art sculpture. They’ll use mixed media and recycled materials to create their very own robot army oeuvre. Still not sure this class is for you? Well - that does not compute!

This class will offer young artists an opportunity to explore new cultures through a colorful world of illustrated stories and fairytales! We’ll take a trip around the world using literature as our guide and see what other children around the world are reading! Each day we’ll read a new story then create artwork inspired by it and draw, paint, collage and more. Books like Possum Magic (Australia), Dim Sum For Everyone! (China) and I Lost My Tooth In Africa (Mali) will introduce your children to the rich cultural heritage and traditions of other countries.

Just because we can’t see them doesn’t mean they don’t need a home to call their own! This week artists will fabricate miniature mixed media homes for these humble forest dwellers! This class will call upon your imagination and resourcefulness! Using clay as your foundation- you’ll sculpt and carve your basic form and then embellish it with an array of found objects and media. Beads, paint, moss, bark, rocks, anything goes for this miniature home of their own!

Join us around the campfire as we spin tales to capture your little one’s imagination! We’ll read books, play games, and of course create art that centers around the theme of the great outdoors. Art projects will include painting landscapes, creating binoculars and other play objects to help make camping even more fun! A collaborative mixed media “campfire” will be made on the first day for story time throughout the week! We will get camping inspiration from books such as Fred and Ted Go Camping, S is for S’mores, and Bugs A to Z.

Come explore the world of pop art! We will be exploring the art movement and style as well as many pop artists such as Andy Warhol, Keith Harring, Roy Lictenstein, Klaus Oldenburg, and Wayne Thiebaud. Students will create bright bold artwork in different media such as collage, painting, drawing, and clay.
